Project

Abbot Mill

City, State

Westford, MA

Window City was on site to complete another mill window replacement project in Westford, Massachusetts.  The former Abbot Worsted Company, a wool and yarn manufacturer, was founded in 1855 and opened the mill in 1879.  This mill was restored into studio, one, and two bedroom apartments all requiring new windows.  Exposed red brick and ducts, large windows, wooden beams and old fire doors painted green are some of the features that withhold the historic charm of the mill.

Window City installed more than 100 Hartford Green, double hung windows with energy efficient Lo-E glass. Each window included colonial grids in between the glass to replicate the historical grid patterns original to the building.  The Lo-E glass will minimize the amount of ultraviolet and infrared light that can pass through glass without compromising the amount of visible light that will be transmitted.  This thin coating on the glass is crucial when it comes to conserving energy.  Most windows now days have that Lo-E coating for the convenience of the consumer.
